Best-selling author
Philip
Yancey will be the featured speaker on a live satellite broadcast September 14,
2003, from Mission Hills Church outside of Denver, Colorado in Greenwood
Village. Yancey will be speaking to
thousands of viewers on the topic of his new book, entitled Rumors of
Another World (Zondervan, available September 2, 2003). The satellite simulcast, produced by Church
Communication Network (CCN), will reach CCN’s 1,500 North American subscriber
churches as well as non-subscribing churches and organizations on a
pay-per-view basis.
Rumors of Another World, the theme of Yancey’s two-hour broadcast, invites
readers to see God in the spiritual abstract—through venues not typically
thought of “holy” like nature, romantic love, music and even sex. His approach will challenge and equip
Christians on how to reach those outside of the Christian faith, looking in. “I know that some people view New Agers as
the enemy,” says Yancey. “But I have a
different approach. I celebrate the
common ground we share, a belief that there are invisible, spiritual forces at
work in the world. From that common
ground, I move on to the differences and, frankly, I think Christianity stands
up pretty well in comparison.”
Zondervan believes that Yancey is uniquely able to
answer these eternal questions with depth and clarity in a credible and
non-threatening setting. “A national
broadcast with Philip will be a chance for Christians to invite their friends
on the borderlands of belief to hear from a fellow spiritual traveler,” says
John Topliff, Vice President, Marketing, Zondervan’s Book Group.
North American churches interested in the live Yancey broadcast may contact CCN for further information (www.ccnonline.net). CCN helps churches obtain compatible Dish Network satellite equipment and provides promotional materials for the event. Other recent or upcoming broadcasts from CCN include seminars or events featuring Dr. James Dobson, Max Lucado, Joni Eareckson Tada, Charles Colson, Lee Strobel and others.
“One of CCN's missions is using
satellite technology to equip Christians to reach their unsaved friends and
family for Christ,” comments Bill Dallas, Founder and CEO, Church Communication
Network. “Philip Yancey is one of the most articulate spokesmen in this
area, and we're excited to have the opportunity to present him on our network.”
Raised in
the Deep South, Philip Yancey has spent a lifetime recovering from the toxic
faith and church of his youth. He draws
from his difficult, racist childhood in writing personal, deeply profound books
on suffering, pain, joy and grace. With
more than 7.6 million books in print, Yancey is one of the most popular and
award-winning authors in the religious community. Two of his works—The Jesus
I Never Knew (1996) and What’s So
Amazing About Grace (1998)—were awarded the ECPA* Christian Book of the
Year award. A graduate of Wheaton
College Graduate School and the University of Chicago, Yancey and his wife
Janet live amidst the natural splendor of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Founded in
1998, Church Communication Network (CCN) desires to help local churches become
more effective via leadership training, educational seminars and outreach
events. CCN provides more than 30 live,
interactive satellite events to more than 1,500 subscriber churches in North
America annually. Based in Silicon
Valley, CCN invites churches to explore their services at www.ccnonline.net or by calling 800.321.6781.
