Parable Interactive and Thomas
Nelson Bibles have chosen a winner in the first-ever Extreme for Jesus Mission
Contest. 16-year-old Cassandra Dahm, of Home, Washington, has won a $1000
scholarship to participate in a Youth For Christ short-term mission project to
Northern Ireland.
Dahm discovered the contest application on Parable.com in
October of 2000 and wrote a moving essay describing her passion for ministry
and her dream to witness overseas.
Parable.com and Thomas Nelson chose Dahm’s essay from scores of online
entries. Dahm wrote about her passion
to evangelize to the homeless population in downtown Tacoma, Washington.
Ron
Johnston, President of Parable.com, believes this contest is the perfect
combination of promotion and ministry: “We’re very excited for Cassie. We’re
delighted to be a part of her chance to spread the Gospel.” As Nelson’s brand manager for Extreme for
Jesus, Hayley Morgan adds, “This should be a trip of a lifetime for
Cassandra. Nelson created Extreme for
Jesus to encourage teens to grow in their faith.”
Dahm
knew that this Youth for Christ mission trip would expand her horizons. She explains, “At first, I thought, I can’t
go to Northern Ireland! Then, I decided this mission trip would definitely get
me out of my comfort zone. I won’t know anyone else on my team, so it will be a
leap of faith. For me, going on a mission trip is a way to serve and share the
Gospel. I’m very excited about the possibilities.” Dahm hopes to study business in college, someday creating a
non-profit company that helps the disadvantaged.
Parable Interactive, a division of The Parable Group, sponsors contests as part of their e-Store, Parable.com and specifically markets to Christian teens on several of their Private Label e-Stores, such as ZJAM Youth Ministry (www.zjam.com) and Praise T.V. (www.praisetv.com). Parable Interactive, based in California, is one of a family of companies under the Parable umbrella.
