Dr. Laura Schlessinger, whose radio program reaches
18 million listeners, is encouraging children to “go do the right thing.” She is contributing her voice and influence
to her first children’s video and music project, God’s Top Ten: An Adventure
Through the Ten Commandments (Tommy Nelson, April 2002). Schlessinger believes that the theme of this
exciting video, the Ten Commandments, provides an important moral compass for
children as well as adults.
Schlessinger, who has a passion for the Bible and
the Judeo-Christian values derived from it, is featured as the voice of a
butterfly in this new video for children ages 3-7. Her character, DeLaura, helps the other animal characters
discover that God’s law and love never change—that the true and good things of
this world are constant. God’s Top
Ten includes ten memorable vignettes—each one highlighting a single
commandment’s meaning and application—complete with vivid computer animation,
endearing animal puppets and eleven engaging original songs. The ten individual segments make this video
a perfect discussion starter in Sunday School classrooms or at home.
According to Dr. Laura, God’s Top Ten will
be a success if it helps children stop and think about the right thing to
do. “I believe we should do what’s good
for our kids, whether it tastes good or not,” Schlessinger has said. “But sometimes it does taste good, as
proven by this delightful video.”
Beginning in late March, Schlessinger will be promoting the video and
companion CD to her more than 18 million radio listeners. She will also participate in national radio
and television interviews to promote God’s Top Ten this spring. All of Dr. Laura’s royalties will be donated
to her nonprofit foundation, The Dr. Laura Schlessinger Foundation
(www.drlaura.com), benefiting children in crisis.

C. Scott Votaw, President of KidzVid Entertainment,
created and produced God’s Top Ten to achieve Schlessinger’s goal of
helping kids think about right and wrong.
“We want kids to do more than recite the Ten Commandments—we want them
to apply these commands to everyday life,” Votaw explains. The KidzVid team, based in Los Angeles,
designed the charming set and stories with young children in mind. Each vignette places the animal characters
in familiar life situations, with DeLaura teaching them to apply the Ten
Commandments to their daily lives.
Votaw oversaw the creation of the video as well as
the companion music product designed to help young children understand the
individual commandments. Each of the ten
original songs is featured briefly on the video and showcased in long form on
CD and cassette. The songs’ musical
styles cover a broad range from pop to country to Latin—all designed to capture
the hearts of young and old alike.
The God’s Top Ten
video will be available in VHS format as well as DVD. The DVD will include bonus material (screen savers and wallpaper)
as well as the ability to advance between scenes and songs. The God’s Top Ten
audio will feature eleven original songs on both cassette and CD.
