George Foreman
The Preacher
- George
Foreman is an ordained minister. Foreman started his ministry after
a religious experience that took place in his dressing room after losing
to Jimmy Young in 1977. Some chalked the event up to heat exhaustion, but
thirty years later, the “new” George lives on.
- George
Foreman is pastor of The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Houston, Texas. He has served this church for 27 consecutive years.
- George
built The George Foreman Youth & Community Center (Houston, TX) in 1984 with money he had saved through his eight-year retirement. Big
George wanted to create a haven for kids to hang out. The youth center was
one of George's biggest inspirations to jump back into the ring. After a
successful year of support, Foreman's accountant told him that he would go
broke if he continued to use his own money to support the center. Foreman
had no intentions of giving up or begging for money to support the center.
He knew that he would have to do it himself. George jumped into the ring a
year later. The rest is history.

Foreman’s favorite scripture is Psalm 1:
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the
wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he
meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields
its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows
away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor
sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the
way of the wicked will perish.
- In God in My Corner: A Spiritual Memoir (available May 2007 from
Thomas Nelson), George Foreman writes:
“Finding Jesus Christ was the best thing that ever happened to me,
and my life gets better every day. I’m not going to let anything destroy
my testimony about the great relationship with God that I have
experienced. I will keep telling my story until I’m unable to say it
anymore.”
“I love pointing people toward heaven, sharing with them God’s plan
of salvation in such a simple way that even a child can understand it. I
want people to know that they matter to God, that He hasn’t given up on
them, that He is interested in every detail of their lives. That’s a
message that is close to my heart.”
