Dr. Paul David Tripp is a popular speaker and author with the heart of a pastor. Paul was born in Toledo, Ohio, where he lived with his family until college. Tripp graduated from Columbia Bible College in 1972 with a degree in Bible and Christian Education, Paul met and married Luella Jackson the same year (1971) that he accepted his first pastoral position. His heart has been for the local church ever since.
Paul completed a Master of Divinity degree at the Reformed Episcopal Seminary (now Philadelphia Theological Seminary) in 1975. After seminary, he was involved in planting a church in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he also founded a Christian School. During the years in Scranton (1977-1987), Paul became interested in biblical counseling and enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia where he graduated in 1988. Paul later became a faculty member of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) and a lecturer in biblical counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary. He also served as a Visiting Professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Since June 2006, Paul has served as President of Paul Tripp Ministries, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to "connect the transforming power of Jesus Christ to everyday life." He travels and speaks weekly on behalf of the ministry, conducting seminars on marriage, parenting, pastoring, leadership, education, and more. In 2007 Paul also joined the pastoral staff at Tenth Presbyterian Church (Philadelphia), where he preaches on Sunday evenings and leads the Ministry to Center City. Paul is currently the Professor of Pastoral Life and Care at Redeemer Seminary (Dallas, Texas) and the Director at the Center for Pastoral Life and Care (Fort Worth, Texas).
Dr. Tripp is the author of 11 books on Christian living, including his latest release entitled What Did You Expect? Redeeming the Realities of Marriage
(Crossway, May 2010). He has authored seven booklets on topics such as marriage, grief, teen sex, suffering, peer pressure and adoption.
Paul and Luella and their four children have lived in Philadelphia since 1987. Luella manages a large commercial art gallery, and Paul is dedicated to painting as an avocation. Paul’s driving passion is to help people understand how the gospel of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ speaks with practical hope into all areas of a broken world.
